Frosty Morning
Some frosty pictures from the back garden this morning
Walk to Wittenham Clumps
I was hoping to get some good photos of the sunset from the top of the Wittenham Clumps, on the walk from Dorchester on Thames it was looking promising. Unfortunately when I arrived at the top there was a bank of cloud obscuring the sunset but I did manage to get a nice shot of the mist rolling in on the way back.
Russia Soyuz spacecraft docks with International Space Station
Great news for the ISS and also for the Russian space agency who have been having a bad year. After the failure of the Progress cargo rocket in August, I am sure everyone involved was very nervous.
ARM’s new GPU Mali-T658
It will be interesting to see what impact this has on mobile devices. ARM are a great company with a different approach to chip design, where they produce cores which are used by ASIC designers producing SOCs. Previously they have been mainly working in the embedded CPU area.
767 emergency landing at Warsaw airport

When I saw this video I thought it looked like a textbook perfect landing without landing gear. In the interviews with the passengers afterwards some commented that the landing was so smooth that they thought the landing gear was down.
Rare earth mineral production boost outside of China
This is really good news for the worldwide electronics industry, there does seem to be a recurring issue with China where they produce something very cheaply because labour is cheap and they don’t have the environmental restrictions that modern countries have. The rest of the world can not compete and close production giving China a monopoly, once this happens they then restrict the supply to boost the price, reap the profits and have a better bargaining position with other governments because they can hold them to ransom.
